About Us

Our branch was formed in 1978, so this is our Silver Jubilee Year.

In 1978 Carol Pontin in memory of her little ginger stray called Duchess (having produced one very large torti kitten on her bed) started up the Chichester Group with the help of her daughter Jane, Jane's husband Desmond, Brigadier White, Alison Swann (one time editor of The Cat)
and Min Flowers. With the blessing and help of Group Captain Boothby over the
years many cats found sanctury.

Sadly Carol died in 1994 having done so much work to help the plight of needy cats.
Tony Taylor having been with the group as treasurer almost from the start was instrumental in getting the group back on it's feet. Bognor Regis & District was added to the Chichester name to reflect the wider area that the group now covered. After many years, Tony stepped down in 1998, leaving a strong committee to carry on the tireless work started by Carol all those years ago.

Today Chichester & District Cats Protection has 2 fosterers in the area, who care for and rehome many many cats & kittens each year.
